Ensuring the fail-safe operation of Vessel Traffic Systems (VTS) depends significantly on the reliability of the hardware of the information processing centers of these systems, which should provide the ability to input, process, store and output information about serviced ships in the area of the VTS. The article considers the task of improving the ope rational reliability of the server equipment of the information processing centers of the VTS and assesses the optimal composition of the backup elements of the server equipment taking into account limiting factors according to the criterion of reliability and the given cost of the backup equipment. And based on the results, the optimal backup strategy was chosen.
