Phase and elemental composition of AlN and Ti1-xAlxN coatings in their protective effect in a 3% wt NaCl solution, are exam-ined. The dependences of the corrosion current density and polarization resistance of AlN and Ti1-xAlxN coatings on the ratio of Al/Ti and phases enriched with aluminum c-AlN + h-AlN and titanium c-TiN + h-Ti3Al2N2 are found. The possibility of controlling the corrosion properties of coatings is shown
