In the article traces and the trace formation mechanism in committing illicit trafficking of drugs, phychotropic substances and their analogues are examined. The author gives the criminalistics characteristics of the mentioned category of crimes; examines the methodical issues of investigating these crimes and analyzes the trace formation mechanism; classifies the types of traces and the peculiarities of trace formation mechanism in committing illicit trafficking of drugs, phychotropic substances and their analogues. The examination highlights that the investigative methods of crimes related to the illicit trafficking of drugs, phychotropic substances and their analogues as well as analysis of investigative and court practice should be used in theory of the criminalistics characteristics. First, the author proposes to examine the issue’s nature including detailed survey of the acts and the process of trace formation mechanism to develop on this base the efficient guidelines of trace discovering and criminalistics analysis and their application in the proving process.
