The study considers the problem of state regulation of physical culture and sports in the Russian Federation. In nowadays realities the state comprehensively affects this area, using various tools, and therefore any influence the part of a public entity in the field of sports must be targeted and justified, because the key principle is «self-regulation» and «autonomy». The subject of this study is an analysis of the existing regulatory framework, the state policy pursued in the country in the field of physical culture and sports, the Presidential instructions and the development strategy in order to improve state regulation of the development processes of the industry in modern economic and geopolitical conditions. Within the framework of this study it is proposed to increase the role of the state in the field of physical culture with the simultaneous expansion of autonomy and interaction between subjects. In addition, it is proposed to adjust the goals and objectives of state policy.
