The article deals with the knowledge of mythical nature categorized by English idioms with proper name. The main directions of contextualization in terms of discourse are determined. Major categories of English idioms with anthroponym based on the myth types are defined. They are biblical, historical, folksy, bookish and Shakespearean myths. The terms “phraseologism” and “idiom” are defined as fully interchangeable.
