The article deals with the problem of the implementation of the communicative approach and the formation of foreign language communicative competence of students in non-linguistic universities. The work presents different points of view on the issue. The article highlights the main components of professionally oriented foreign language communicative competence. Special attention is paid to innovative educational techniques aimed at optimizing the process of foreign language teaching as they help to develop students’ language skills.
