Purpose of the study: to study the prospects for innovative development of the gas industry in Azerbaijan, through the discovery and development of new large gas condensate fields of the Caspian shelf and the implementation of international gas pipelines for the supply of Azerbaijani gas to the European market. Research methods: general scientific (synthesis, deduction, induction, generalization, observation, forecasting, scientific abstraction, statistical analysis, logical), as well as methods of grouping and classification, expert assessment. Results: the growing role of the gas industry in the economy of Azerbaijan was determined. The prospective directions of prospecting for new hydrocarbon fields and the stages of development of new large gas condensate fields on the Caspian shelf were studied to meet the demand for natural gas in the country and for external consumers. The forecast estimates of natural gas reserves for the near future and the main routes of gas pipelines for transporting the European market are generalized. Possible new pipeline routes for gas export and participants in this project are proposed for discussion. Scientific novelty: it was revealed that for the innovative development of the gas industry of the republic, it is necessary to develop a strategy containing the coordinated and maximum use of the resource and innovation potential, through the formation and support of complete technological chains that allow a shift in priorities from natural gas production (storage and transportation) to its deep gas and petrochemical processing. Practical significance: implementation of innovative development of the gas industry in Azerbaijan, for the effective development of new gas condensate fields, storage and transportation of natural gas, implementation of international gas projects.
