The article deals with the actual problem of the formation of educational independence of younger schoolchildren using the means of mathematics, the approaches of various Russian scientists to the organization of this process are revealed. The author gives a description of the concept of "learning independence", gives examples of tasks that contribute to the development of all components of the independence of first grade students.
