THE MANIFESTATION OF THE DIVINE AND DEVILISH PRINCIPLES IN MAN IN THE WORKS OF F. M. DOSTOEVSKY (BASED ON THE BOOK "THE POSSEDESSES")
Abstract and keywords
Abstract (English):
Anthropology is central to Dostoevsky's philosophical outlook. The vulgar understanding of the Russian writer's anthropology is that he allegedly treats humanity with extreme pessimism. Indeed, Dostoevsky demonstrated the diabolical origin of human nature. But this is not all of his anthropology. The Russian thinker in his work also demonstrated another beginning of humanity – the divine. In this article, we will consider Dostoevsky's novel The Possessed as an example. In this novel even such serious antipodes as Verkhovensky and Stavrogin have the image of God and his likeness. In The Possessed, it becomes apparent that in Dostoevsky's work, every person is simultaneously a combination of the divine and the devil.
