Обсуждаются когнитивные возможности телеологической парадигмы цели. Пытливый ум повсюду видит, что неодушевленная материя служит для жизни, а она, в свою очередь, служит для человека. Однако такое понятие, как «цель», вышло из современной науки, хотя долгое время шло по пути становления доктриной определения цели, или номогенеза. Прослеживается история смены основной парадигмы науки от цели к случаю. Рассмотрено преодоление катастрофических представлений Кювье положениями актуализма и эволюционизма. С середины XIX века общественное мнение начало утверждать, что каждое новое научное достижение ставит под сомнение религиозные убеждения. Критика библейской истории началась с событий Великого Потопа, как ключевого в Библии. Рассмотрены негативное отношение к катастрофизму в советской научной литературе и значение идеологии в методологии науки. Антропный принцип предопределяет радикальную перестройку общенаучной методологии. Наконец, он приближается к религиозному знанию. Антропный принцип телеологичен и содержит эту цель («эйдос-энтелехия») в структуре материи, которая его движет. В этом свете сила науки снова видится не в противостоянии с религией, а в гармонии с ней.
